Fastnet Modified Challenge Heats Up With Silverstone
Tuesday, September 30 2008 07:08

The Fastnet Rally saw Silverstone Tyres come on board last week as part sponsors of the Modified Challenge prizes. The Skibbereen & District Car Club decided that for The Challenge they would give ‘worth while’ prizes, and afterall every rally car needs tyres. The Club were delighted when Silverstone Tyres gave their interest from the very beginning.
When Silverstone gave the confirmation of their sponsorship, the Club decided to go one further and increase the amount of the prizes that would be presented. The Prize List now includes: 1st overall –Voucher for 4 rally tyres, 2nd overall – Voucher for 2 rally tyres, 3rd overall- Voucher for 2 rally tyres, as well as a voucher for 2 rally tyres for 1st in each of the 7 modified classes; 9, 9a, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14, with the overall winners keeping exempt from the class prizes.

Press Release 1

-New Modified Challenge!
-West Cork Hotel to be main sponsor and HQ
-WRC interest as preparation for Rally Ireland
-Revival of classic stages

Tuesday, September 02 2008 09:10

Skibbereen & District Car Club are delighted to invite crews to battle it out in the new Fastnet Modified Challenge! The Fastnet remains as the final round of the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship, but due to being in the ‘opt-out’ year of the Dunlop National Championship, the Club decided to use this opportunity to their advantage and give the benefit of the extra spaces to the modified clubmen. The Challenge incorporates classes 9 to 14 and is presenting the valuable prizes of 4 Rally Tyres for the overall modified winner and 2 Rally Tyres to the winner of each class.

The Fastnet Rally is pleased to have once again The West Cork Hotel as their main sponsor. This creates the ideal centralised situation of having headquarters, service, parce ferme and scrutiny all within 100meters of each other in Skibbereen.

Last year The Fastnet rally had the privilege of seeing Andreas Mikkelsen and Eugene Donnelly leading the field. Again this year, with Rally Ireland just around the corner, The Fastnet Rally is providing the ideal opportunity as a ‘shakedown’ preparation for the event.

The rally has a total stage length of 120km and is staying with the 7 stage format while offering increased stage kilometres. Along with offering the new modified challenge the experience will be further increased with the revival of some of the older classic stages, taking the crews and spectators out along the scenic Mizen Head Peninsula.

More Details and Regulations later.

West Cork Hotel Fastnet Rally – Sunday 28th October 2007

Press Release 2 – 14th October 2007

Immediate Release

Skibbereen & District Car Club are delighted to announce that at close of entries over 275 applications were received for the 2007 West Cork Hotel Fastnet Rally.

Clerk of the Course Michael O'Riordan and his team now face the challenge of sorting the 151 starters in the main field and 20 starters in the Historic/Junior Section.

Although the overall and Group N Sections of the Dunlop National Rally Championship have already been decided, there are still many class positions to be settled on the Fastnet Rally. In the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship 9 drivers can still take the overall title.

Commenting on the entries received, Clerk of the Course Michael O'Riordan said, "We are delighted with the both the quantity and quality of the entries received for this year's West Cork Hotel Fastnet Rally. Along with many of the National and Southern 4 Championship competitors, we are delighted to see some previous visitors to Skibbereen on the list of names along with those crews who want to use the Fastnet Rally as a shakedown for Rally Ireland, more details of which will be revealed at the Rally Launch."

The Rally Launch for the 2007 Fastnet Rally with take place on Wednesday the 17th of October at 9pm in the Rally HQ, the West Cork Hotel, Ilen Street, Skibbereen, and all are welcome to attend.

The 2007 West Cork Hotel Fastnet Rally will feature a 7 stage format, one less that previous years, but with an increase in stage kilometres. This has been achieved by using a loop of three stages of almost 20 km each, preceded by an opening 10km stage just outside the host town of Skibbereen.

The West Cork Hotel Fastnet Stages Rally will be the final round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship and the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship.

Press Release 1

West Cork Hotel Fastnet Rally – Sunday 28th October 2007

Press Release 1 – 26th September 2006

Immediate Release

Skibbereen & District Car Club are delighted to announce details of this year's Fastnet Rally.

After the success of last year’s event, The West Cork Hotel, on the banks of the Ilen River in Skibbereen will again be the Main Sponsor and Event Headquarters. This means that Scrutiny, Park Ferme and Rally Headquarters are all within a few hundred metres of each other, a feature that proved very popular in 2006.

Clerk of the Course Michael O’Riordan and his team of dedicated assistants have chosen a new format of stages for the 2007 running of the rally. “We wanted to shorten the time crews spent out of the stages, but retain the challenge for competitors.” said Michael.

Deputy COC Kieran O’Callaghan added, “I have no doubt that this new route will ensure that whoever lifts the Fastnet Rock Sculpture at prize giving on Sunday 28th October will have worked hard over the weekend to deserve the honour. “

The West Cork Hotel - Fastnet Stages Rally will be the final round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship and the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship. Although the overall National Championship has been decided, there are still many class positions to be settled in Skibbereen over the bank holiday weekend. The Rally will also be a counting round in The Skibbereen and District Car Club Championship
.
